TASTING NOTES:

  • Colour: Deep amber.
  • Aroma: Candied fruit and its subtle and lightly spicy create a complete harmony and a mark of its roundness.
  • Palate: Smooth, full sensation gives a simultaneously powerful and soft tonality with a hint of cocoa and a warm fruity presence.
  • Finish: Long finish expresses all the complexity of the cognac’s blending and its long aging process.

THE ORIGINAL

Maurice Hennessy created the Hennessy XO in 1870 for his circle of friends. Then, he introduced a new style of cognac: bold, rich and complex.

LONG AGING FOR GREATER INTENSITY

The 100 eaux-de-vie assembled to create X.O and it’s aged for a long time. Some for 30 years. This is to give an unparalleled robustness. Furthermore, Maurice Hennessy gave the name X.O to this unique “extra old” cognac.

The original Hennessy XO brandy Extra Old Cognac France is both elegant and complex. Moreover, we aged and blended to be bold, rich, and persistent.

HISTORY
Richard Hennessy founded the Maison in 1765. In addition, it is a maison that has always kept on innovating and creating to give birth to the world’s finest cognacs.

1765
AT THE BEGINNING, RICHARD HENNESSY, AN IRISH OFFICER
The Hennessy cognac distillery was founded by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer serving in the army of Louis XV.

1794
FIRST DELIVERIES OF HENNESSY COGNAC TO AMERICA
In fact, Hennessy cognac starts to become more and more popular in the United States, a country that had gained its independence just 18 years before.

1817
CREATION OF V.S.O.P
The Prince of Wales, later King George IV of Great Britain, was a great connoisseur of cognac. He asked Hennessy to create a “very superior old pale cognac.”
Since then the initials V.S.O.P – Very Superior Old Pale – have been used as a benchmark for the entire industry.

1856
HENNESSY FAMILY COAT OF ARMS, THE ‘BRAS ARMÉE,’ BECOMES THE BRAND SYMBOL.
The iconic fist clutching a hatchet refers to founder Richard Hennessy’s 12-year army career with the French, earning him French citizenship.

1865
CREATION OF A STAR BASED CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FOR COGNAC QUALITIES
Maurice Hennessy, great-grandson of founder Richard Hennessy, decided to create a cognac classification. He used varying numbers of stars to designate different quality, giving rise to Hennessy’s Three Star Cognac, today known as V.S (Very Special). Soon this classification was adopted by the entire industry.

1870
MAURICE HENNESSY CREATES X.O ‘THE ORIGINAL’
Maurice Hennessy created the X.O (Extra Old) classification of Cognac. Originally for family and friends, it is today a worldwide reference for cognacs.

1979
CREATION OF HENNESSY PARADIS
Master Blender Maurice Fillioux created Hennessy Paradis – a completely unique cognac that blends more than a hundred exceptional eaux-de-vie.

1996
CREATION OF RICHARD HENNESSY
In addition, Master Blender Yann Fillioux created Richard Hennessy, a cognac that approaches perfection.
Made especially for true connoisseurs, this masterpiece cognac embodies 250 years of savoir-faire and history and is bottled in numbered, hand-blown crystal carafes.

2011
CREATION OF PARADIS IMPERIAL
Inspired by the cognac Hennessy created for Czar Alexander I in 1818, Master Blender Yann Fillioux created Paradis Imperial. Furthermore, this cognac features a large proportion of eaux de vie fmor the Maison’s 19th century reserve, creating a cognac of exceptional elegance, finesse and stature.

THE ART OF EXCELLENCE
Cognac is not made, it is created.
At Hennessy, cognac is not improvised. It is raised with kindness and attention, firmness and affection.

In Cognac, and only in Cognac. At Hennessy, cognac is not improvised. However, it is raised with kindness and attention, firmness and affection. First, there is the grapevine. It yields Ugni Blanc, the light fruity grape specially suited to Hennessy Maison’s double distillation in great copper stills. To ensure the aromas will be both excellent and varied, only eaux-de-vie from the four great crus of the region (Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois) are selected for the privilege of becoming great Hennessy cognacs.

SAVOIR FAIRE
Next comes the ageing time, a test of vision and imagination, since this phase can extend beyond an entire lifetime. In the Hennessy cellars, casks hewn from over 100-year-old oak trees, exclusively from French forests , stand in a dim light infused with heavy notes. Moreover, a total of over 300,000 casks rest there. In addition, Hennessy is proud to have one of the largest reserve of cognac eaux-de-vie in the world. The Founder’s Cellar is in itself a symbol of this heritage, the time-defying heart of Hennessy Maison. We aged every single one of these eaux-de-vie for at least fifty years, and many are over a hundred years old. Once at the top of their potential, they put in large wicker-encased glass demijohns to preserve their exceptional qualities. They will then be used to create the rarest cognacs. The oldest eau-de-vie dates from 1800.
